Custom-Made Brown Leather Axe Mask For One-Handed Axes
A Necessity for the Modern Fencer and Reenactor
While medieval warriors often simply tucked their axes behind their belts or hung them on an iron ring, the rules of today's historical events and LARP battles strictly require safe weapon transport in the camp and off the battlefield. This leather blade cover, often referred to by fighters as an axe mask, is simply slipped over the edge of the weapon. A secure fit is ensured by a strong leather strap that wraps around the haft and fastens securely with a high-quality saddler's press stud. This allows you to carry your weapon without worry among crowds of spectators.
Important Information Regarding Custom Production
For the mask to fulfill its safety function one hundred percent and not slip off the weapon, it is always manufactured exactly to measure for a specific blade. You have two options for obtaining this sheath:
- If you order the cover together with a new axe from our catalogue, it will automatically be stitched to fit this new weapon perfectly.
- If you already own your beloved axe and wish to have this cover made for it, it is absolutely essential that you send your axe to us physically. This is the only way the saddler can guarantee a perfect and safe fit for the mask.
Leather Equipment Care
The sheath is made of honest natural leather, which requires regular nourishment. To maintain its flexibility, extend its lifespan, and increase its resistance to moisture, we recommend that you regularly treat the leather with a high-quality beeswax-based balm. If you are caught in the rain on a historical march and the cover gets wet, never place it near a direct heat source such as an open fire or fireplace. Rapid drying would dry out the leather, causing it to harden and crack. Let the cover dry slowly at normal room temperature.
Safe Usage Principles
Keep in mind that the mask is designed solely for safe transport and protecting the edge when storing the weapon. Never perform practice strikes into wood, attempt to fence, or train blows with the cover on. The leather could be cut through from the inside, irreparably destroying the cover and compromising your safety.
