Custom Brown Leather Blade Cover for Battle Axes with Tooling
Practical Use and a Must-Have for Reenactors
While in the Middle Ages axes were often simply tucked behind a belt or hung on a ring, today's standards at historical festivals, LARPs, and HEMA events require safe weapon transport. A leather blade cover (often called an axe mask) is an absolute necessity when moving around civilian areas or in the camp where fighting is not currently taking place. The sheath is simply slipped over the blade and secured with strong leather straps that wrap around the haft (or under the hammer poll/spike on the back of the axe) and fasten with brass press studs. This ensures the mask holds firmly and does not slip off even during brisk walking.
Important Information Regarding Custom Production
For the blade cover to fulfill its function perfectly, it must fit the axe head flawlessly. For this reason, this cover is always custom-made to fit a specific weapon. You have two options for purchasing this cover:
- Order the cover together with a new axe from our catalogue. The sheath will automatically be made to measure for this newly purchased weapon.
- If you already have your favourite axe at home and want this cover for it, it is absolutely essential that you send your axe to us physically by post. This is the only way the saddler can guarantee that the sheath will fit like a glove.
Leather Equipment Care and Safety
The sheath is made of high-quality, thick natural leather. To maintain its flexibility, strength, and moisture resistance, we recommend that you regularly treat it with a high-quality beeswax leather balm. If the cover gets wet at an event, never dry it near a direct heat source (open fire, stove, or radiator). The leather could dry out, harden, and crack. Let it dry slowly at room temperature. Remember that the fitted cover is for transport and protection only. Never perform practice swings or attacks with the weapon while the cover is on – this could cut through the leather and destroy the product.
