Blunt Medieval Dagger – 13th–14th Century Replica
Design and Construction
The dagger features a wide, slightly curved crossguard (approx. 133 mm / 5.2 inches) that arches towards the blade. This element not only looks great but historically served to trap an opponent's blade. The grip is wrapped in black leather for a secure hold and is finished with a massive steel wheel pommel, which visually balances the weapon. The blade is equipped with a distinct fuller, which reduces weight without compromising structural strength.
The construction is full-tang; the tang extends through the entire handle and is peened over a pyramidal washer at the end of the pommel. Although the blade has a blunt edge (approx. 2.2 mm) and a rounded tip, the manufacturer declares this model as decorative.
Historical Context: The Scaled-Down Sword
This type of dagger (often called a Quillon Dagger) was essentially a miniature version of the knightly arming swords of the time. In the High Middle Ages, it served as a versatile tool and a backup weapon for close-quarters combat when a longsword was impractical or broken. Thanks to the massive pommel, it could also be used to strike the helmet or face of an opponent.

Safety and Classification
Class C according to fencing weapon classification – Product without warranty!
Although the dagger has blunt edges and a sturdy construction, the manufacturer does not provide a warranty for practical use in fencing. Therefore, we offer this item strictly as a decorative piece. It is not intended for contact combat, drilling techniques, or stage combat where blade contact occurs. More information on weapon classification can be found here.
Care and Maintenance
The blade is made of carbon steel and is not lacquered, so it is prone to corrosion. You may find minor traces of rust from the factory; this is natural for this type of product and easily removable. For a long lifespan of the dagger:
- Oil the blade regularly (use WD-40, gun oil, or synthetic oil).
- Store it in a dry place.
- If a leather sheath is included (may be included as a free gift, not guaranteed), do not leave the dagger stored inside it for long periods. Leather absorbs moisture and promotes rusting of the steel.
