This dagger, named ‘Lawrence’, is a bladed weapon with a total length of approx. 60 cm, which makes it one of the longer examples of its kind and almost on the borderline with a short sword. The straight, double-edged blade measures about 47 cm and is about 4 cm wide at the cross guard. The blade tapers gently to a sharp point, indicating that it is primarily intended for thrusting, but the sharp edges also allow for effective slashing. It is made of high-quality carbon spring steel CSN 14260 (54SiCr6 equivalent), which is hardened to a hardness of 44-48 HRC, guaranteeing durability and functionality. Lawrence Dagger

The appearance of the dagger is reminiscent of the late medieval or early Renaissance period (approximately 14th to 16th century). It has a simple, straight cross guard, about 12.5 cm wide, which provides basic hand protection. The handle is topped off with a solid, flared pommel that balances the weapon and gives it a characteristic look. The total weight of the dagger is about 0.48 kg, which allows for quick handling. Its style may be reminiscent of the long left-handed daggers or the so-called ‘main gauche’, which are used in combination with the rapier, or of a very long variant of the target dagger, although the shape of the pommel is not typically disc-shaped.

This dagger is suitable as part of a costume for historical fencing or, with a blunt blade, for re-enactment, especially for figures from the late Middle Ages or the Renaissance, due to its parameters and sharp blade shape. It can serve as a functional training weapon for practising historical fighting techniques (always with the utmost care and appropriate protective equipment). Due to its aesthetic value, it is also an excellent collector's item or an appealing decorative element for interior design for lovers of history and bladed weapons. Note: The version with the sharp blade is not suitable for LARP events where only soft or specially modified weapons are allowed.

Safe use:

  • Remember that this is a sharp and functional weapon. Always handle it with the utmost respect and caution.
  • Never point a dagger at people or animals, unless it is as part of a controlled and safe training session under the supervision of an experienced instructor and with full protective equipment.
  • When handling the dagger (training, maintenance, cleaning), be aware of sharp edges and points. Wear protective gloves if necessary.
  • Keep the dagger out of reach of children and unauthorised persons.
  • Store it in a safe and dry place, preferably in a scabbard or protective cover, to avoid injury and corrosion.
  • Check the blade regularly and treat it with preservative oil to prevent corrosion.

The ‘Lawrence’ dagger is a solidly made weapon in a historicising look that can be both a functional training tool and an elegant addition to your collection or costume. Its length and design make it an interesting and awe-inspiring piece.
