Historical Context and Origin
Mjölnir, translated as The Crusher, is the magical weapon of the god Thor in Germanic and Norse mythology. According to legend, it was forged by the dwarves Brokkr and Sindri as a gift for the gods. The hammer had the property of never missing its mark and always returning to its owner's hand after being thrown. For the ancient Norse people of the 9th to 11th centuries, a hammer-shaped amulet was a symbol of protection against evil and chaos.
