Suede Archer’s Arm Guard – Authentic Forearm Protection in Natural Tones
Technical Details and Practical Use
The bracer is designed as a simple wrap that is secured using a leather thong threaded through eyelets. This system ensures the guard stays firmly in place without twisting during movement. The suede finish has the advantage of being non-reflective, a feature highly valued by scouts or those moving stealthily through the woods. It is available in three historical colours – classic black, earthy brown, and light natural – allowing you to match it easily with the rest of your gear.

Historical Context and Significance
Forearm protection has been a staple for archers since prehistoric times. When a shot is released, the bowstring moves forward with immense speed. If the archer's form is not perfect, the string can strike the inner forearm painfully upon release. Historically, these protectors, known as bracers, were made from leather, bone, horn, or even metal. Notably, for English longbowmen during the Battle of Agincourt, leather bracers were essential pieces of kit to maintain combat effectiveness during prolonged engagements. This specific model, with its minimalist design, is suitable for Early to High Medieval impressions, as well as fantasy archetypes like rangers or elves.
Maintenance and Safety Advice
To ensure your arm guard serves you for many years, we recommend following these guidelines:
- Leather Care: If the bracer gets wet, allow it to dry naturally at room temperature. Never place it on a radiator, as the leather may become brittle and crack. Periodically, you can treat it with a suede protector spray.
- Correct Fitting: Wear the bracer on the arm that holds the bow (the left arm for right-handed shooters). The lacing should face the outside of your forearm so the string strikes the smooth leather surface.
- What to Avoid: Do not expose the leather to extreme heat and avoid using heavy greases or waxes intended for smooth leather, as this will ruin the suede texture.
