Medieval Leather Ankle Boots Teutonic Knight with Tie Strap

Historical Design with Modern Support

Simple and functional ankle boots formed the basis of footwear from the Early to the High Middle Ages. This model, reaching just over the ankle, is ideal for portraying a knight, a mercenary, or a wealthier craftsman. The fastening is designed in a historical manner using a leather strap. If the shaft or instep seems too tight or, conversely, too loose when trying them on, this problem can be easily solved: simply loosen the knots on the leather straps leading to the buttons (you can use an ordinary nail or fork to help) and adjust the length of the lacing accordingly. By shortening them, you tighten the boot further; by lengthening them, you gain the required space.

Proper Care to Maintain Quality

Leather is a natural material that needs to be cared for regularly. Straight from production, the footwear is treated with a beeswax leather balm. Regularly rub leather oil or a high-quality wax balm into the leather to prevent it from drying out, hardening, and cracking. Applying the balm softens the leather, helps waterproof it, and gives it a slightly darker, richer hue. Always allow wet footwear to dry very slowly at room temperature. Never dry the boots near the radiant heat of an open fire, on a hot radiator, or in direct sunlight. Scuffs from battle can be easily masked with standard tinted shoe polish.

Important Information on Colours and Sizes

The most common colours are black, dark brown, and light brown (natural). If you select a different, unconventional colour, this shade is created using a special covering lacquer paint. Bear in mind that this layer may crack or flake slightly over time in the stressed bending areas of the shoe. For occasional wear to festivals, this is entirely sufficient, but for extreme and daily use, we highly recommend choosing naturally dyed leathers.

If you wear orthotic insoles and choose our custom-made sizing option, it is absolutely essential that you physically post these insoles to us. The manufacturer will carefully seat them directly into your new boots so that they fit you with absolute precision.

We recommend you purchase period woollen socks or linen hose from our range to accompany these knight's boots, as they will prevent blisters and keep your feet warm.
