Telescopic Tonfa
Can't decide between the compactness of a telescopic baton and the defensive capabilities offered by a tonfa? This unique tool solves your dilemma. It is a telescopic tonfa made of highly durable hardened steel, combining the best of both worlds. Thanks to its modular design, you can easily unscrew the side handle to get a classic telescopic baton. Conversely, if you leave it attached, you have a fully functional tonfa at your disposal, allowing you to perform effective blocks, locks, and control techniques that are not possible with a regular baton. The entire surface features a black finish, ensuring discreteness and a tactical look. The handle is ribbed and covered with anti-slip rubber for a secure grip even with gloves or sweaty palms. Hardened Steel Telescopic Tonfa – 2-in-1
Versatility and Usage
The main weapon of this tonfa is its adaptability. In the closed state, it measures only 32 cm (approx. 12.6 inches), making it easy to carry. With a flick of the wrist, the telescopic part extends, and the tool reaches a length of 53 cm (approx. 21 inches). The side handle is topped with a mushroom-shaped pommel, which prevents it from slipping out of your hand during rotation (so-called "flippings"). Thanks to the use of hardened steel, you don't have to worry about deformation even during hard strikes or prying.

Historical Context: From Okinawa to Police Gear
The tonfa has its roots in the martial arts of Okinawa (Kobudo), where it originally served as a handle for millstones. Locals began using it for defence against samurai swords because its shape allowed for perfect forearm protection. In the 20th century, police forces around the world discovered this tool (known as the PR-24). This telescopic version is a modern evolution that solves the main disadvantage of the classic tonfa – its bulkiness. It combines ancient efficiency with modern materials and compactness.
Care and Safety
Since it uses a friction lock system (tubes hold by friction), the same rules apply as for batons:
- Closing: Close the tonfa by striking the tip vertically against a hard surface.
- Maintenance: Never oil the telescopic joints, otherwise, it will stop staying open.
- Inspection: Regularly check the tightness of the side handle thread so that it does not loosen during handling.
I recommend this tool if you have at least basic knowledge of martial arts or tonfa techniques to fully utilise the potential of the side handle.
