Crimp-on Sheet Metal Point - 8 mm
Has the tip broken off your favourite arrow from a junior set, or do you need to equip a large number of recreational arrows cheaply and effectively? This pressed sheet metal point is the ideal solution for simple repairs and crafting lightweight arrows. It is made from thin sheet metal, giving it an extremely low weight (only approx. 15 grains). This makes it particularly suitable for arrows intended for lighter bows, children's sets, or crossbows with wooden bolts, where a heavy forged point would shift the centre of gravity too much. Installation is simple and requires no tapering of the shaft – the point is simply placed over the end of the arrow and secured. It is an economical and functional choice for recreational shooting at soft targets. Further product information ...
Crimp-on Sheet Metal Point for Wooden Arrows – 8 mm / 5/16"
Installation and Usage
This type of point is designed for wooden shafts with a diameter of approx. 8 mm (approx. 5/16"). It is a so-called push-on or crimp-on type. Although the name suggests it holds by pressure alone, for reliable function I recommend the following procedure: clean the end of the shaft and apply a drop of adhesive (epoxy or hot melt). Then slide the point onto the shaft and, to secure it, gently crimp it in a few places with pliers (or use a special crimping tool) so that the metal presses into the wood. This prevents the point from remaining in the target butt when retrieving the arrow.

History and Development
While medieval war arrows were fitted with massive forged heads capable of piercing chainmail or padded jacks, lighter and blunter points were historically used for practice shooting and hunting small birds. This modern pressed point is the technological successor to simple sheet metal "caps" that began to be mass-produced with the advent of the Industrial Revolution. They made archery accessible to the masses because their production was (and is) significantly cheaper and faster than blacksmithing work.
Care and Safety
Due to the lightweight construction and thin wall of the point, certain rules must be followed:
- Target Choice: Shoot only at soft target butts (straw, foam). Impact with wood, a wall, or stone will immediately deform and destroy this sheet metal point.
- Inspection: Before every shoot, check that the point is seated firmly on the shaft. A loose point can cause shooting inaccuracy or dangerous ricochets.
- Bow Suitability: Do not use these points for strong hunting or sport bows (over 20-25 lbs). The low weight of the point could cause a "dry fire" effect (insufficient resistance for the bow limbs) or dangerous arrow flight behaviour with a powerful bow.
I recommend purchasing quality point adhesive and a set of wooden shafts of the corresponding diameter to go with these points.
