The History and Legend of El Cid
Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, known as El Cid Campeador, was a Castilian nobleman and military leader who lived in the 11th century. He was a hero of the Reconquista, the Christian campaign to reclaim the Iberian Peninsula. His two most famous swords were named Tizona and Colada. It is important to note, however, that the design of this sword, a swept-hilt rapier (in Spanish, espada ropera), belongs to a later period, specifically the 16th and 17th centuries. This piece is therefore an artistic interpretation inspired by the legend, not a precise historical replica of an 11th-century weapon. It was during the 16th century that such swords became a symbol of social status and personal defense for noblemen throughout Europe.
How to Care for Your Sword
To ensure your rapier maintains its beauty for years to come, follow these simple tips:
- The stainless steel blade is low-maintenance. Still, we recommend wiping it occasionally with a dry, soft cloth.
- To enhance its shine and provide protection, you can apply a thin layer of conservation oil to the blade and metal parts of the hilt.
- Store the sword in a dry environment to prevent any potential corrosion.
Important Notice
This is a purely decorative item. The blade is made of 420 stainless steel and features a screwed tang. It is not hardened or designed for practical use. This sword is not intended for fencing, combat, cutting, or any other practical application. It is a display piece only.
