Black Wooden Tabletop Stand for Two Samurai Swords (Daisho)

A Home for Your Daisho

In Japan, the way swords are displayed is both a science and an art. A stand for two swords is typically intended for a Daisho set (literally "big and small"). Here are a few tips on how to store them correctly:

  • Edge Up: Always place swords with the edge (Ha) facing upwards. This protects the edge from dulling against the wood inside the scabbard and simultaneously prevents the scabbard from being cut by the weight of the blade.
  • Handle to the Left: To signal peace and friendly intentions, the handles (Tsuka) should point to the left. It is difficult for a right-handed person to draw quickly from this position.
  • Hierarchy: Traditionally, the shorter sword (Wakizashi) is placed on the top tier and the longer one (Katana) on the bottom. However, this may vary depending on the school or aesthetic preference.

Construction and Stability

The stand is made of solid wood, providing it with sufficient stability. Although lightweight (under one kilogram), its width and centre of gravity allow it to safely hold two fully functional steel swords. The black stain imitates traditional Japanese lacquer and gives the stand a unified look.

Stand Care

Wood is a natural material. To maintain it, simply wipe the stand regularly with a dry cloth or duster. Do not use aggressive chemicals. If you want to maximally protect the lacquer on your scabbards (Saya), we recommend sticking a piece of self-adhesive felt or leather onto the contact surfaces (notches) of the stand.
