Vertical Solid Wood Samurai Sword Stand
Construction and Craftsmanship
The stand is made of honest solid wood, ensuring the necessary weight and stability—you don't have to worry about it tipping over with your valuable weapon at the slightest draft. The surface is stained black, which matches most traditional scabbards (saya). The design is engineered to hold the sword in a vertical position, a style often associated with displaying Tachi swords, but nowadays very popular for Katanas as well due to space efficiency.
In the lower part of the base, there is a recess for seating the end of the scabbard (kojiri) or the handle, while the upper bracket fixes the weapon at the top. This ensures that the sword stays firmly in place.

Etiquette and Sword Display
In Japanese culture, the sword is considered the soul of the samurai, and the way it is stored says a lot about the owner. While horizontal stands (Katanakake) are more common, vertical stands (Tachikake) were historically used for Tachi swords, which were worn edge down. Today, this method of presentation is popular for its "skyward" aesthetic and ability to highlight the curvature of the blade (Sori). It is important that the sword is always placed in the stand within its scabbard, thereby protecting the edge and your surroundings.
Stand Care
Wood is a living material, so it deserves your attention:
- Dust: Regularly wipe off dust with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. Do not use aggressive chemicals that could damage the stain.
- Placement: Do not place the stand in the immediate vicinity of heaters or in direct sunlight to prevent the wood from warping or cracking.
- Safety: Although the stand is stable, place it on a flat surface and away from high-traffic areas in your home to prevent accidental knocks.
To perfectly care for your sword in this stand, you might find a traditional sword cleaning kit useful for keeping the blade in pristine condition.
