Women's Baroque Market Vendor Costume From Cotton And Duvetyn
Dear friend, are you preparing for a historical fair, a Baroque festival, a theatrical performance, or a LARP and looking for the perfect period attire? This layered women's Baroque market vendor costume will instantly transport you to the bustling streets of the 17th century. It will provide you with not only exceptional comfort throughout the day but also the absolutely authentic look of a common, yet tastefully dressed woman of the people. The lacing will beautifully shape your silhouette, and the high-quality cotton will ensure maximum breathability. Show everyone that even the historical clothing of common folk can have incredible charm, and live out your historical story in maximum comfort!
Layered Attire of Townswomen and Countrywomen
The historical model for this dress dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries, the period of the Baroque and emerging Rococo. During this time, the layering of garments formed the absolute foundation of contemporary fashion, not only at court but also among the common people, townswomen, and market vendors. While noblewomen laced themselves into rigid corsets with boning, ordinary women chose more practical bodices or laced overdresses that adapted to their figures and did not restrict movement during everyday work at the market or in the household.
This beautiful ensemble is made from a combination of a long underdress and a shorter overdress. The white underdress with long gathered sleeves serves as the base layer. Over it is worn the distinctive, shorter sleeveless overdress. The outer layer features practical lacing on the front and on both sides, which allows for perfect fitting directly to your figure. Furthermore, the bottom hem of the overdress is tastefully decorated with decorative trim. The underdress is sewn from lightweight 100% cotton, while the overdress is made from sturdier cotton duvetyn, which reliably imitates the appearance of expensive velvet while maintaining excellent durability.

Care of Historical Clothing and Safety
To ensure this beautiful costume serves you for as long as possible, it requires proper care. We recommend washing both the cotton underdress and the duvetyn overdress gently in a washing machine on a delicate cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F). Do not use bleach and never dry the garment in a tumble dryer to prevent the cotton fibres from shrinking. Air dry it laid flat. Ironing is possible on a medium temperature setting; however, we recommend ironing the duvetyn exclusively from the reverse side. Protect the garment from open flames (e.g., at a campfire during a LARP), as cotton is a highly flammable material. You can find more details in our cleaning and maintenance instructions.
Recommended Accessories
Please note that the small jewellery on the model's neck is not included in the delivery. To achieve a perfectly authentic look of a Baroque woman of the people, we recommend complementing the costume with a linen period coif, a simple linen apron, and low leather shoes or half-boots corresponding to the 17th or 18th century. A wicker basket for goods and a simple leather coin pouch on the belt are also absolutely perfect for the role of a market vendor.
