This beautiful ensemble is inspired by the fashion of the 17th century, specifically the period of the Early to High Baroque in Central and Western Europe. During this era, similar garments were worn not only by court musicians, artists, and troubadours but also by townsfolk and lower nobility on less formal occasions. The garment is designed to provide sufficient freedom of movement when playing historical instruments while appearing suitably presentable for attendance at court.

The foundation of the ensemble is a voluminous shirt with long, wide sleeves, decorated at the neck with an elegant and rich lace jabot. A distinctive long, sleeveless vest is worn over the shirt, reaching below the waistline. The vest fastens on the front with a row of buttons and is richly decorated with trim and prominent pockets. The back of the vest is made of a lightweight but very sturdy brocade with a fine floral pattern. The narrow trousers reach the mid-calf, as was customary in the Baroque era, thus leaving room for tall riding boots or stockings. The entire ensemble is crowned by a soft beret decorated with unmissable feathers, giving the garment the right artistic flair and a touch of free-spiritedness. Care and Maintenance of the Costume

To ensure this costume lasts you for many years and always looks great, it is essential to follow proper maintenance procedures. We recommend washing the shirt very gently by hand in lukewarm water because of the delicate cotton lace. It is best to entrust the vest and trousers to a professional dry cleaner. Although the brocade containing metallic fibres is resistant to snags and chafing, it must never be washed in a washing machine or tumble dried, otherwise its structure would be irreparably damaged. The shirt can be ironed on a medium setting; the duvetyn vest and trousers should only be ironed inside out on a very low temperature setting. The beret should be dry cleaned only using a soft brush.

Recommended Accessories

With this costume, we certainly recommend getting tall leather riding boots typical of the 17th century, which will perfectly complement the cropped calf-length trousers. Furthermore, a sturdy leather belt with a brass buckle for hanging a coin pouch will be highly useful. And if your musician character occasionally travels through dangerous forests between noble estates, it would not go amiss to acquire a simple smallsword or dagger suspended on a leather baldric for defence.
