The historical model for this magnificent garment dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries, the era of the opulent Baroque. During this time, similar clothing formed the standard wardrobe of courtiers, esteemed artists, and musicians who entertained the nobility at European royal courts. The attire was designed to represent the wealth of the court while allowing the musician freedom of movement when playing the lute or other period instruments.

The foundation of this rich ensemble is a linen blend shirt with long, very wide sleeves. These are decorated with elegant lace at the ends, while the neck is framed by a typical Baroque jabot. Worn over the shirt is a prominent long sleeveless waistcoat that reaches below the waistline. The waistcoat fastens with a row of buttons and is made from strong decorative brocade with a beautiful floral pattern. The narrow trousers traditionally reach mid-calf to show off the stockings. The overall artistic impression is completed by a loose beret richly decorated with feathers.

The advantage of the materials used is their high durability and period accuracy. The decorative brocade with metallic fibres is densely woven and highly resistant to snags and tears. The cotton duvetyn of the trousers perfectly imitates heavy velvet while maintaining excellent breathability. The linen blend of the shirt ensures excellent thermoregulation.

Care of the Historical Costume

To ensure this beautiful ensemble serves you for as long as possible, we recommend following proper maintenance procedures. We strongly advise entrusting the brocade waistcoat with metallic fibres and the duvetyn trousers to a professional dry cleaner; machine washing would irreversibly damage the fabric. The linen shirt with lace can be washed very gently by hand in lukewarm water. Never tumble dry the garments. Ironing is only possible inside out on a very low temperature setting. Please note that the depicted white stockings and historical shoes are not included in the delivery. For a perfect and historically accurate 18th-century appearance, we recommend purchasing tall men's knee socks and classic period shoes with a prominent metal buckle. As a musician, you will also find a small leather pouch on your belt useful for the gold coins you earn for your performance.
