Historical Context and Uniform Usage

The name Zouave refers to members of specific light infantry regiments that originally originated within the French Army. These elite units were primarily deployed in French North Africa between 1831 and 1962. During the 19th century, however, this iconic style of dress and combat was adopted by other armies as well, especially by the famous volunteer regiments fighting in the American Civil War. This style is characterised by a strong oriental influence: wide trousers reaching below the knee, a prominent waist sash, and the typical headpiece – the fez. The button-up shirt has long sleeves, over which the unmistakable short, open jacket with its decorated front is worn. The garments are made from cotton duvetyne and a linen blend. These materials boast excellent breathability, durability, and great sweat wicking properties, which you will certainly appreciate in the heat of battle.

Garment Care and Safety

Warrior, to ensure your uniform retains its bright colours and strength, we recommend washing it exclusively by hand or on a very gentle machine wash cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F). Avoid harsh detergents and bleach. Tumble drying is completely unsuitable, as the garment could shrink and be ruined. Instead, hang it on a coat hanger and let it air dry in the shade.
