The term Zouave originally referred to members of the light infantry regiments of the French Army, who served in French North Africa between 1831 and 1962. Their distinctive uniform, heavily inspired by traditional North African and Turkish dress, became legendary. Throughout the 19th century, other armies around the world adopted this attractive and practical style. The Zouave regiments gained particular fame during the American Civil War, where elite volunteer units wore these uniforms and displayed extraordinary bravery in combat.

Today, this complete outfit is perfectly suited for historical reenactments of 19th-century conflicts, LARP events, theatrical performances, or as a very high-quality costume. Please note that this is historical clothing, not protective armor. Always prioritize your personal safety during stage fencing or combat demonstrations, and use hidden modern protectors if necessary.

Material, Composition, and Proper Care

The ensemble is carefully tailored from quality materials that guarantee both a period-accurate look and durability. The wide gathered trousers (reaching below the knee) and the open-front jacket with oriental braiding are made of duvetyn, which is 100% cotton with a special brushed finish. The shirt is sewn from a breathable linen-cotton blend, which you will appreciate especially during summer events. The calves are protected by tall white button-up gaiters, and the waist is wrapped in a striking black sash with gold trim.

• Jacket and Trousers (Duvetyn): We strongly recommend professional dry cleaning only, to avoid damaging the decorative braids and the fabric's texture.
• Shirt (Linen blend): Can be washed gently by hand or in a washing machine at 30 °C (86 °F). Do not use bleach or tumble dry.
• Fez: Dry clean only using a soft clothes brush.

Please note that the black leather shoes shown in the photographs are not included in the delivery. To make your military impression absolutely flawless, we recommend purchasing a period replica of a percussion rifle or an officer's saber to go with your uniform.
