Historical Inspiration and Ideal Use of the Costume

Although this is a fantasy costume, its individual elements are based on real historical clothing from the High and Late Middle Ages, approximately the 14th and 15th centuries. The separate hood with a shoulder cape (known as a gugel) was an absolutely common piece of clothing across all social classes, protecting the head and shoulders from the cold and rain. The vest with its metal buckle fastenings references period doublets. Throughout history, travellers, hunters, mercenaries, and common folk wore similar, albeit usually less decorated, garments. Today, you can proudly wear this set to LARP battles, historically themed festivals, reenactment events, or as an elaborate cosplay of your favourite book or movie character.

The short-sleeved shirt is richly decorated on the arms with an applied braid and studded with golden metal rivets, which gives the entire set a slightly aristocratic or commanding character. The material is 100% cotton in a fustian weave (also known as moleskin), which is strong, breathable, and at the same time capable of retaining body heat.

Proper Care and Safe Usage

To ensure this fantasy costume serves you as long as possible and retains its rich colours, it is important to care for it properly. We recommend washing the garment by hand or in a washing machine on a gentle cycle at a temperature of 30 to 40 °C (86 to 104 °F). Do not use aggressive bleach. Tumble drying is not suitable; it is ideal to let the costume dry naturally hung on a hanger out of direct sunlight so the fabric does not fade. Ironing can be done on a medium setting meant for cotton, but be very careful not to iron over the metal rivets and braids, which could be damaged. The costume is made of natural material, so never step too close to an open fire, as there is a risk of the fabric burning and subsequent burns.

We would like to point out that other items of clothing shown in the photographs, such as the light-coloured trousers, are not included in this delivery. To achieve a perfect appearance, we recommend that you purchase linen trousers, a sturdy leather belt, and medieval leather shoes corresponding to 14th-century fashion to go with this costume, as well as a replica of a one-handed sword to complete the illusion of a valiant warrior.
