Height-Adjustable Armour Stand with Wooden Base
Stable Construction for a Complete Suit of Armour
The load-bearing frame is made from hand-finished, painted structural steel in closed square-section tubing. The lower structure consists of two long vertical supports, short foot sections and a connecting bar around the pelvic area. A central telescopic column rises above this frame.
A broad chest crossbar supports the weight of the cuirass, shoulder armour and textile underlayers. Above it is an extendable rod intended to support a helmet. The stand can be supplied without a helmet support cap or with a helmet support cap at an additional charge.
Assembly and Height Adjustment
Place the wooden base on a level, firm and dry floor. Align the steel frame with the pre-drilled holes and secure it using screws of the correct length. The screws must hold the structure firmly without projecting beneath the wooden feet, as the base is intended to rest on those feet rather than on the screw heads.
Extend the central column to the required height and secure it with the plastic-headed locking knob. Adjust the helmet rod in the same way. Tighten both knobs firmly by hand, but do not use excessive force that could damage the threads or plastic handles.
Before adding the armour, apply light hand pressure to confirm that the stand is stable. Load the heaviest torso components first, then add the shoulders and arms, and place the helmet on last. Keep the weight distributed as evenly as possible on both sides.
For Homes, Armouries and Exhibitions
The stand is primarily intended for the display of plate armour, historical costumes and military equipment. In a private interior, it can be placed in a study, entrance hall, collection room or medieval-themed space. It is equally useful in museums, exhibitions, theatres, costume departments, shops and photography studios.
The adjustable height helps create more natural proportions for different displays. The stand can also carry long tunics, gambesons, doublets, cloaks and film costumes, provided their weight remains within the stability of the structure and is distributed evenly.
Historical Context of Armour Display
During the Middle Ages, complete suits of armour were not normally exhibited on free-standing figures in the modern museum sense. Individual components were stored in chests, hung in armouries or kept with other military equipment. The representative display of complete armour became particularly common in later collections, castles, museums and historicist interiors.
This stand is therefore not a reproduction of a medieval household fitting. It is a modern practical solution for presenting historical originals, reproductions and costumes. Correct support can also reduce long-term strain on leather straps, textile layers and individual plates.

Floor Protection and Stability
Depending on your flooring, we recommend fitting the wooden feet with self-adhesive felt pads. These can protect parquet, laminate, tiles and varnished surfaces from scratching and may reduce minor movement. Inspect the felt regularly, as trapped grit can damage delicate flooring.
Always place the stand on a horizontal surface. Avoid deep-pile carpets, sloping floors and positions where doors or passing people could strike the display.
Care and Maintenance
- Wipe the steel frame with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth.
- Dry any moisture immediately, particularly around joints, screws and threaded parts.
- Do not use wire brushes, coarse abrasives or aggressive chemical cleaners.
- Touch up damaged paint with a suitable coating for structural steel to limit corrosion.
- Keep the wooden base away from standing water, persistent high humidity and direct radiant heat.
- Check the mounting screws and locking knobs regularly.
- During long-term display, inspect whether the armour is causing the stand to lean.
Safe Use
The stand is not designed for climbing, leaning against or use as a striking dummy. Do not allow children to pull on the armour or play around the display. Remove all equipment before moving the stand and, when fully assembled, carry it with the assistance of a second person.
Distribute the load evenly. Do not place a heavy helmet on a fully extended rod until the locking knob has been checked. Do not hang heavy weapons, shields or additional weights from one side. Stop using the product if you find cracked wood, a loose weld, a bent section or damaged thread, and arrange repair before loading it again.
