HEMA Practice Longsword Johannes Liechtenauer, Federschwert of Spring Steel
Usage and Historical Context
This sword is a typical representative of the weapons used in Renaissance fencing schools (Fechtschulen) throughout Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries. The distinctive widening of the blade at the crossguard, called the schilt, served to better protect the thumb during specific techniques and to safely bind the opponent's blade. The weapon is primarily intended for HEMA, technique practice, drills, and full-contact free fencing (sparring) with appropriate protective equipment. The blade is blunt and ends with a rolled tip, which distributes the force of a thrust over a larger area.

Safety and Maintenance
Although the sword is made with safety in mind, never fence without a certified HEMA mask, a gambeson, and heavy gloves. The Federschwert behaves like a strong steel spring. The blade needs regular care. After each training session, we recommend wiping the steel with a dry cloth and applying a thin layer of gun oil. This prevents rust, to which high-carbon steels are susceptible. Do not store the sword in leather scabbards that draw moisture, and do not use it to strike hard objects (wood, stone), which would damage the weapon's structural integrity.
Recommended Accessories
We can offer you a high-quality padded bag for safe transport to tournaments. For training, you will certainly appreciate our heavy HEMA gloves, a fencing mask with back-of-the-head protection, and a sturdy padded jacket.
Swordier Tradition and Quality
This sword is a proud representative of the SWM series by the Swordier brand. The weapons are created in the legendary Chinese city of Longquan, whose history of metalworking dates back more than 2,600 years. The SWM series represents upgraded versions of older models. To ensure maximum quality with large production volumes, the heat treatment of this series is carefully outsourced to local allied workshops. For easier maintenance, the grip uses faux leather underneath the cord wrapping. We can guarantee that you hold a fully functional, well-forged, and perfectly balanced weapon made of our premium in-house forged spring steel. We are enthusiasts living for steel, and this sword is a symbol of strength, honor, and craftsmanship perfection.
