Detailed Description and Usage
This weapon is designed specifically for LARP (Live Action Role Play) battles and costume play. It is a safe, foam replica that allows you to experience close-quarters combat without the risk of serious injury associated with real steel. The core of the sword consists of a sturdy yet flexible fibreglass rod, ensuring the stability of the entire structure. This core is encased in a layer of durable polyurethane foam.
The highlight of this weapon is undoubtedly its hilt (tsuka). Instead of the traditional braid, the handle is moulded into the shape of a golden dragon's body, ending in a detailed dragon head on the pommel (kashira). The gold colour with an antique patina gives the weapon an ancient and luxurious appearance. The guard (tsuba) is also decorated with reliefs in an oriental style. The blade is painted in high-gloss silver to imitate polished steel as faithfully as possible and features a fuller (hi).
Historical Context and Inspiration
Although the Takeo model is inspired by the legendary Japanese katana, which was the soul of the samurai in feudal Japan, its design is pure fantasy. Historical katanas had handles covered in ray skin and wrapped in silk or cotton cord for a firm grip. Solid gold handles (imitated here in foam) were rare on combat weapons and were more likely found on ceremonial swords called tachi or presentation weapons for temples and nobility. In Asian mythology, the dragon is a symbol of wisdom, strength, and good fortune, adding a layer of mystical significance to your character.

- Maintenance: Clean the weapon of dust and mud with a damp cloth after each use. Regularly apply silicone spray (ideally 100% silicone) to keep the surface flexible and protect it from drying out and cracking.
- Storage: Store the sword in a dry, cool place. Long-term exposure to direct sunlight or high temperatures can damage the foam structure. Store the sword flat, rather than standing on its tip.
- Safety: Although this is a foam weapon, avoid thrusting unless the specific event rules explicitly allow it. Never strike the head or neck with full force. Be careful not to damage the tip – if the fibreglass core becomes exposed, the weapon must be retired immediately as it becomes dangerous.
