A Blade with History
Haraldur is a high-quality foam weapon designed for LARP, standing out with its realistic "used" appearance.
- The Blade: Instead of a pristine, mirror-polished finish, this blade features a textured patina effect. It looks like aged steel that has weathered storms and survived countless skirmishes. This weathering gives the sword a gritty, authentic character. A central fuller runs down the blade, reducing weight and adding realism.
- The Hilt: The crossguard and pommel are finished in antique gold/bronze and adorned with intricate Norse knotwork patterns. The five-lobed pommel is a classic feature of Viking weaponry.
- The Grip: The reddish-brown handle imitates worn leather wrapping and features segmented rings, ensuring a secure grip even in the heat of battle.
Historical Inspiration
This sword is inspired by historical finds from the 9th to 11th centuries. It closely resembles types from the Jan Petersen typology (such as Type O or S), characterized by the lobed pommel. - Maintenance: To keep the foam flexible and the finish looking great, apply silicone spray regularly. This prevents the material from drying out or cracking.
- Storage: Avoid storing the sword in direct sunlight or extreme heat (e.g., in a hot car), as this can damage the foam.
- Usage: Do not strike hard or abrasive surfaces like concrete, rocks, or trees. Although safe for combat, avoid full-force stabbing.
To complete your shield-wall look, I recommend pairing this sword with a proper leather sword frog and a sturdy Viking round shield.
