The dagger consists of three main parts: the blade, the hilt, and the metal sheath:

• Blade: It has the typical shape of the Roman Pugio dagger – wide, symmetrical with a central fuller (though only symbolically indicated here), ideal for thrusting. It is made of 420 Stainless Steel and has a length of 23.5 cm (9.3 inches). The blade is decorative, not sharp, and not intended for practical use or training.
• Hilt: It is cast from metal (Die Casting) with a patinated gold-coloured finish. The grip features a prominent ring in the middle, decorated with a large orange (amber) decorative stone. The pommel is finished with two ovals, into which smaller red stones are set.
• Sheath: This is its most striking part. It is also cast from metal and adorned with an extremely rich and detailed relief that combines geometric, Celtic, and ancient motifs. The sheath is gilded, with central circular motifs and triangular patterns filled with red and silver colour (enamel/resin), complemented by numerous red decorative stones. On the upper side, a relief of an ancient scene with figures is depicted.

The Roman Pugio and Norse Influences

The original Pugio was a short, broad dagger used by Roman soldiers and officers throughout the Roman Empire (from the 1st century BC to the 3rd century AD). It served as a secondary weapon and a symbol of rank. The hilt and sheath shown here strongly deviate from the classic Roman style, leaning towards opulent Early Medieval or Norse ornamentation full of fittings and stones, which was typical for Viking and Celtic elites during the Migration Period and the early Middle Ages. This dagger is thus a fantasy rendition of a historical weapon with a strong decorative emphasis.

Maintenance and Recommended Accessories

To maintain the shine of the metal on the sheath and hilt, we recommend regular wiping with a dry, soft cloth. Although stainless steel blade does not easily corrode, you can treat it with a thin layer of Ballistol universal oil (SKU: 16003) for long-term protection. Any belt with a Viking buckle (e.g., SKU: 13245) would be an excellent match for hanging this dagger on a costume.
