Material and Historical Context
In the medieval world, linen was the fabric of life. Prized for its durability and natural cooling properties, it was worn by everyone from peasants to kings. Linen wicks moisture away from the body and dries quickly, making it the perfect choice for active wear under armor. This shirt is available in two fabric options:
- 100% Pure Linen (150 GSM): Lightweight and breathable, offering the highest level of historical accuracy and summer comfort.
- Linen-Cotton Blend (240 GSM): A sturdy blend (87% cotton, 13% linen) that offers a slightly heavier feel, softness, and easier maintenance with fewer wrinkles.
Usage and Care
Wear this shirt as your primary base layer. The split neckline with tie closures allows for easy adjustment and adds to the period look. It pairs perfectly with medieval braies (underwear) and hose. It is also comfortable enough to be used as sleeping attire at historical events.
To maintain the quality of your shirt:
- Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold water (max 40°C / 104°F).
- Do not use bleach.
- Hang to air dry (tumble drying may shrink the natural fibers).
- Iron on a low to medium setting if needed.
