Bohemond Leather Brigandine - Riveted Plate Cuirass

Late-Medieval Style and Protection

The cuirass is crafted from high-quality black leather. Its defining feature is a dense grid of vertically aligned rectangular plates, firmly secured to the base with prominent brass-coloured rivets. This design not only looks superb but also effectively disperses the energy of impacts within the rules of LARP or stage combat. Furthermore, the armour comes with detachable shoulder plates (pauldrons), which are attached to the torso with stylish lacing, allowing you to customise your look and level of protection as needed.

The back is intelligently designed with a system of crossed straps and sturdy buckles, enabling easy and precise size adjustment. This ensures the armour fits you perfectly without restricting your movement.

Versatile for Any Adventure

This leather armour is perfect for a wide range of activities:

  • LARP Events: An excellent choice for characters who require a balance of protection and mobility.
  • Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA): Suitable for technique drills and light sparring where full steel protection is not required.
  • Re-enactment and Fairs: An authentic look that will complete your man-at-arms or mercenary costume.
  • Theatre and Film: A durable and visually striking prop for any historical or fantasy production.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
This leather armour is primarily a costume piece and light protection for LARP. It is not designed for full-contact combat such as buhurt, the Battle of the Nations, or similar activities involving full-force strikes with steel weapons.

A Glimpse into History

The brigandine, an armour composed of metal plates riveted to the inside of a fabric or leather garment, was immensely popular in the 14th and 15th centuries. It offered an excellent compromise between the protection of plate armour and the flexibility of mail. Cheaper to produce than a full plate cuirass, it was favoured by foot soldiers, archers, and mercenaries across Europe. Our "Bohemond" model translates this principle into a leather version with external plates, emphasising its rugged, martial character.

Fun Fact: The word "brigand," which today means "bandit" or "robber," is derived from the term for lightly-armed mercenary foot soldiers (French "brigand") who often wore this very type of armour.

Caring for Your Armour

To ensure your leather armour serves you well for years to come and continues to look its best, follow these simple guidelines:

  • After each use, wipe the armour with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove sweat and dirt.
  • Periodically treat the leather with a suitable conditioner, balm, or wax to maintain its flexibility and prevent cracking.
  • Store it in a dry, well-ventilated area. Ideally, hang it on a stand or lay it flat to prevent deformation.
  • Protect it from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and moisture.
