This one-handed sword embodies the transitional period between the Viking Age and the High Middle Ages. With its clean, functional lines, straight crossguard, and characteristic semi-circular pommel, it represents the typical weapon of a Norman warrior, such as those seen at the Battle of Hastings in 1066. It is an ideal choice for collectors, an accessory for a historical costume, or as an impressive wall decoration. The sword comes complete with a simple yet elegant black scabbard featuring a steel chape and locket. Further product information ...

11th Century Norman Sword with Scabbard, Class D

Sword class D, NO WARRANTY!

A Faithful Representation of a Warrior's Blade

The sword's form corresponds to Type X of the Oakeshott typology, which was popular from the 10th to the 12th century. This type is characterised by a broad blade with a fuller running almost its entire length, tapering smoothly to a sharp point. The simple straight crossguard (Oakeshott Style 1) and the rounded pommel (Oakeshott Type VIII, sometimes referred to as a "tea-cosy" or "bra-cup" pommel) are hallmarks of 11th-century swords. These weapons were versatile tools on the battlefield, effective for both cutting and thrusting.

For Collectors and Costumes

Whether you are completing your Norman knight costume for a LARP event, a historical festival, or seeking a unique piece for your collection, this sword will meet your expectations. Its historically accurate appearance makes it an excellent display item that will command attention in any setting. Thanks to its solid construction and significant weight, it has a very realistic and substantial feel in the hand.

Construction and Craftsmanship

The blade of the sword is crafted from mild steel and is unsharpened. The hilt is wrapped in black leather for a secure and comfortable grip. All parts of the hilt – the pommel and guard – are also made of steel and feature a matte finish that enhances the weapon's utilitarian character. The scabbard is constructed from wood, covered in black leatherette, and fitted with polished steel mounts.

Caring For Your New Sword

To keep your sword in perfect condition for a long time, it requires proper care. After handling, wipe the blade with a dry cloth. To protect against rust, we recommend regularly applying a thin layer of oil to the blade (e.g., Ballistol or another gun care oil). Store the sword in a dry environment, ideally in its scabbard, to prevent damage and dust accumulation.
