Design and Construction Down to the Last Detail

This hanger is the perfect fusion of functionality and historical design. The most prominent feature is its complex hilt, which provides your hand with excellent protection. It consists of a main knuckle-bow that flows smoothly into a beaked pommel, and a short counter-guard on the outer side. This hilt type (classified as Elmslie-Oakeshott Expanded Style 14a,b) is fully functional for both right- and left-handed users. The grip is constructed in the style of a German "Messer" – two wooden scales with a beautiful wood grain are firmly riveted to the massive blade tang. The 4 cm wide blade has a shape typical of hangers or falchions.

Use in Combat: Reliability and Protection

Unlike light theatrical daggers, this hanger is a fully-fledged combat weapon for LARP. It is fitted with our more durable "Harder FakeSteel Langmesser" blade, designed to withstand the rigours of fencing and contact fighting. The complex hilt not only looks great but, more importantly, protects your hand from strikes, giving you confidence in both attack and defence. The short grip ensures a very tight and secure hold, making the sword highly manoeuvrable. Whether you are right- or left-handed, the hilt will serve you equally well.

How to Care For Your Weapon

To ensure your hanger survives many battles and maintains its appearance, give it the proper care.

• It's a weapon for foam foes, not for chopping wood. Avoid hitting hard surfaces like rocks, trees, walls, or the sharp edges of armour and shields.
• When storing, do not leave the sword compressed under other gear for extended periods.
• Minor damage to the foam can be easily repaired with a flexible superglue (we recommend Loctite Super Glue Power Flex Gel).
• However, remember that a broken core is a fatal wound that cannot be healed.

A Piece of History in Your Hands

Hangers, falchions, and similar single-edged cutting swords were immensely popular in the 15th century. They represented an affordable and effective alternative to expensive knightly swords. They were both tools and reliable weapons, carried primarily by common soldiers, crossbowmen, and archers. Their robust construction was ideal for cutting through lighter armour and for fighting in tight formations where a longsword was cumbersome. This particular model with its complex hilt represents the pinnacle of their development, offering hand protection comparable to much later weapons.

Even though this is a safe foam weapon, always use it responsibly. Its solid construction can deliver a palpable hit. Always control your slashes and thrusts, and never aim for the head, neck, or other sensitive areas. Use appropriate protective gear.
