War Hammer for LARP - The Knight's End / PU Foam Hammer

When the sword fails and plate armour seems invincible, it's time for the specialist – the War Hammer! This model from FakeSteel Armory is inspired by the devastating weapons of the late Middle Ages, developed as a direct answer to increasingly perfect knightly armour. It is a weapon forged for a single purpose: to deform, pierce, and destroy. In the hands of an armoured man-at-arms or a knight, it is the tool that can turn the tide of a duel. War Hammer for LARP - The Knight's End / PU Foam Hammer

Appearance and Construction

Every element of this weapon is designed for maximum effectiveness against armour. The head consists of three parts:

  1. The Hammer Face: The striking surface is not flat but features four pyramidal spikes, which prevent slipping on curved armour and transfer the full force of the blow.
  2. The Beak: A sharp, curved spike on the back was designed for piercing weaker plates and mail links.
  3. The Top Spike: A top spike allows the weapon to be used effectively for thrusting.

The haft has a realistic wood texture and is "strapped" with two long foam strips (known as langets) with simulated rivets, enhancing its authenticity and visual durability.

The Armourer's Hidden Strength

Beneath the surface of this all-foam weapon lies a sophisticated construction for maximum performance and durability:

  • Fibreglass Core: A strong round core forms the weapon's spine.
  • Steel Counterweight: A 15 cm steel tube is embedded in the handle, acting as a counterweight and giving the hammer excellent manoeuvrability and the feel of a real weapon.
  • Reinforced Head: Additionally, there is a rubber tube inside the foam head, which significantly increases its resistance to wear and tear.

Available Versions:

  • Colour of metal parts: steel / graphite

Use in Combat: The Can Opener

The war hammer is a specialist's tool. Its power lies not in cutting, but in focused kinetic energy. A blow to a helmet could stun or kill, even without penetrating the steel. A strike to an armour joint could cripple a limb. The beak could hook and pull a rider from his horse. This 72 cm LARP version is the perfect one-handed weapon for anyone serious about fighting armoured opponents.

How to Care For Your Weapon

To ensure your hammer survives many battles, give it the proper care.

  • It was made to deform armour, not to break rocks. Avoid hitting hard and sharp objects to prevent damaging the foam points.
  • When storing, do not leave the weapon compressed for long periods.
  • Minor damage to the foam can be easily repaired with a flexible superglue (we recommend Loctite Super Glue Power Flex Gel).
  • However, remember that a broken core is a wound that cannot be healed.

A Piece of History in Your Hands

With the development of full plate armour in the 14th and 15th centuries, swords became less effective. This led to an "arms race," which resulted in specialized weapons like the war hammer. It was not a peasant's weapon, but rather one used by knights and men-at-arms who fought against their equals. It was the answer to the question: "How do you defeat a man completely encased in steel?" The answer was: "You don't have to cut him, you just have to bludgeon him."

Safety First

Even though this is a safe foam weapon, always use it responsibly. It is designed to deliver palpable but safe blows. Never aim for the head, neck, or other sensitive areas. Remember that even a foam beak can cause injury if handled carelessly. Use appropriate protective gear.
