Design and Historical Inspiration

The shield face imitates wooden planks and is divided into four quadrants – two opposing ones are finished in a weathered red colour, the other two in a natural brown wood tone. The dominant white cross effectively separates these coloured sections. The central boss and the shield rim with rivets have a dark, worn metallic look, completing the historical impression. The use of the cross on shields has roots reaching back to the 11th century when it became associated with the spread of Christianity in the Nordic region. This design has since become a classic motif on medieval and modern European shields.

Material and Construction for LARP

The shield is crafted from durable and safe Polyurethane (PUR) foam, which is lightweight yet robust enough to withstand the impacts of padded LARP weapons. Weighing only approx. 900 g, this 50cm shield is excellently manageable and allows for quick defensive manoeuvres. The depth (curvature) of the shield, approx. 9 cm, enhances its protective function.
