A Symbol with Deep Meaning

Where Does This Knocker Fit?

The Claddagh knocker is perfect for anyone looking to add a personal and warm element to their home. It will look splendid on a main entrance door, a garden gate, or even on an interior door as a unique decorative piece. Its universal message also makes it a wonderful and unconventional gift for weddings, anniversaries, or as a housewarming present—a gift of love, friendship, and loyalty.

The Origin of the Claddagh Ring Legend

The Claddagh symbol originates from the fishing village of the same name near Galway, Ireland. The most famous legend tells of Richard Joyce, a man who was captured by pirates in the 17th century shortly after his wedding and sold into slavery to a Moorish goldsmith. During his long years of captivity, he never forgot his love and forged a ring for her with the motif of hands, a heart, and a crown. When he finally managed to return home, he found his wife had waited for him all that time. He gave her the ring, which became an immortal symbol of their undying love.

Interesting Fact: How the Ring Is Worn

Traditionally, the Claddagh ring is worn in a specific way to indicate the wearer's relationship status. On the right hand with the heart pointing outwards means the person is single. With the heart pointing inwards, they are in a relationship. Worn on the left hand with the heart pointing inwards, it signifies the person is married. Fortunately, your door knocker sends only one constant signal: "Welcome!"
