The cast-iron part of the door knocker have tapped holes on the back (the side that rests against the outside of the door). Two nuts and two grub screws are supplied, which must be shortened to a length corresponding to the thickness of the door. One end of the screw is then screwed into the body of the door knocker, then put through the hole in the door and the end of the screw is finally tightened from the inside of the door with a nut.
