Padded Arming Belt with Points, Cotton Canvas, Natural Colour

The Cornerstone of Your Armour

At first glance, it might look like an ordinary belt, but the arming belt (or arming girdle) was a key innovation in the 14th and 15th centuries. Before its widespread use, leg harnesses and other armour components were tied directly to the gambeson, placing undue strain on the shoulders and torso. This belt acts as a load-bearing platform that is worn tightly around the waist or hips. Individual pieces of armour are then tied to it using laces known as "points". This not only significantly increases comfort but also enhances the warrior's overall mobility.

A Thoughtful and Robust Construction

The belt is crafted from several layers of sturdy cotton canvas in a natural (undyed) colour. An internal soft padding ensures that the belt doesn't pinch or chafe, even during prolonged wear and under heavy load. Two rows of carefully stitched eyelets along the entire length of the belt provide maximum flexibility for attaching your armour exactly where you need it. The package includes a set of strong cotton laces, which are tipped with elegant and practical brass aglets (chapes), making it easy to thread them through the eyelets.

How to Use an Arming Belt

The arming belt is worn over your base layer garment or gambeson. Cinch it tightly around your waist and secure it by tying the laces at the back, front, or side. Then, take the points intended for your armour, thread them through the eyelets on the belt, and tie them to the corresponding points on your maille or plate leg harness, or other armour components.

Size Chart

Choosing the right size is crucial for proper function. Measure yourself carefully and select your size from the table below:

Size Belt Length (A) Belt Width (D) Strings Length
S 85 cm / 33.5 in 5 cm / 2 in 45 cm / 17.5 in
M 95 cm / 37.4 in
L 105 cm / 41.3 in
XL 115 cm / 45.3 in
XXL 125 cm / 49.2 in

Other parameters: Holes diameter approx. 5 mm, Holes spacing approx. 3.5 cm (1.4 in).

Product Care

To ensure the longevity of the belt, we recommend cleaning by hand. For light soiling, wipe the belt with a damp cloth. For heavier dirt, it can be hand-washed in cold water with a mild detergent. Avoid machine washing and tumble drying, as this could damage the padding and the stitched eyelets. Allow to air dry completely.
