Design and Craftsmanship
The tunic is made from 100% cotton with a textured weave that mimics historical fabrics while remaining comfortable against the skin. The cut is simple, sleeveless, and knee-length, ensuring maximum freedom of movement for the gladiator during combat. A key design feature is the unhemmed, raw edges (on the sleeves and bottom hem). This is intentional – the frayed look emphasises the wearer's low social status (slave) and gives the costume a rugged, battle-worn aesthetic.
Historical Context
In Ancient Rome, the tunic was the staple garment for all classes. Slaves and gladiators wore the simplest versions made of coarse linen or wool, often sleeveless to prevent the fabric from interfering with work or fighting. In the arena, tunic colours could distinguish different gladiator schools (ludus) or teams. Blue was historically associated with the sea and might have been worn by combatants in naval-themed events or mock sea battles (naumachiae).

- Washing: Hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle at max 30°C (86°F). Cotton may shrink at higher temperatures.
- Drying: Do not tumble dry. Allow to air dry naturally.
- Ironing: Iron on medium heat if necessary.
