Blackened Loose Chainmail Rings – 9 mm, Dome Rivets (1 kg)
Planning to craft chainmail armour that looks like it has already seen the fires of battle? Or perhaps you are building a costume for a dark knight, a mercenary, or an orc? These blackened steel rings are the ideal choice for you. The blackening not only gives the armour a rugged, veteran appearance and reduces glare for stealth missions, but it also provides basic corrosion resistance. With a diameter of 9 mm and a wire thickness of 1.2 mm (18 Gauge), you get a mesh that is lighter and finer than standard 10mm/1.6mm rings. You will especially appreciate this when crafting accessories such as mail collars (pixane), sleeves, or voiders. Further product information ...

Blackened Loose Chainmail Rings – 9 mm, Dome Rivets (1 kg)
Fine Work for Detail-Oriented Armorers
This set contains rings made of round wire with flattened ends featuring pre-drilled holes for riveting. They are connected using dome rivets, a historically proven method that ensures a strong bond. Thanks to the 1.2 mm wire thickness, these rings are slightly easier to manipulate than heavier variants, but they require precision. They are excellent for: * **LARP and Cosplay:** The black finish looks fantastic and requires less polishing than bright steel. * **Historical Fencing:** For making lighter armor parts (armpit protection, completing coifs). * **Repairs:** If you have armor with matching specs, this is an essential service kit.

Crafting and Maintenance Tips
Although the rings are blackened, they are still made of mild steel, which can rust if exposed to moisture for long periods. * **Preservation:** The blackening helps, but occasional oiling (WD40, Ballistol, or mineral oil) will benefit the armor and deepen the dark tone. * **Tools:** You will need special riveting tongs designed for dome rivets to connect the rings. Without them, you won't be able to close the rivet correctly, and the joint won't hold. * **Residue:** Be prepared that the blackening might rub off slightly on your hands initially, which is common for this type of finish.
Warning
This is a "construction kit for adults." Armor making requires patience and skill. The rivets are tiny and easily lost; we recommend working over a mat or a shallow tray to catch any droppers.
