The history of shuriken (translating to "blade hidden in the hand") reaches deep into Japanese history. The hira-shuriken (flat star) type, also known as shaken, was utilized by samurai and ninja (shinobi) primarily as a tactical weapon to distract, slow down a pursuing enemy, or lightly injure unprotected body parts. The central hole was not for aerodynamics, but practically served to thread multiple stars onto a cord for easy and silent transport. Our rubber model faithfully replicates the classic five-pointed design and is an absolutely ideal tool for safely understanding the flight dynamics and rotation of these legendary Asian weapons.
Proper Use and Easy Rubber Maintenance
The training star is made of flexible and durable rubber (softened polymer). You can safely throw it at soft training targets, such as cardboard boxes, gym mats, or thick styrofoam. With a weight of just 20 grams (approx. 0.7 oz) and a diameter of 120 mm (approx. 4.72 inches), it handles excellently in the fingers and is very forgiving of beginner mistakes upon release. Rubber, as a material, is completely maintenance-free. If the star gets dirty from mud or dust during outdoor training, simply rinse it under lukewarm water with a little regular soap after your session and let it air dry naturally.
Crucial Safety Warning for Training
Although this throwing star is made of rubber and primarily intended for safe practice, it is absolutely essential to follow fundamental safety rules! Always wear safety goggles during training and never aim at the face, neck, or eyes of a training partner or animals. A hit to the eye, even with a relatively soft rubber tip, can cause severe and permanent vision damage. The star is also not designed to be thrown at hard targets (tree trunks, brick walls), where the rubber could tear, be destroyed, or unpredictably bounce back towards the thrower.
