Angled Leather Sword Frog for Belts, Black

Easy and Secure Sword Carrying

The frog slides easily onto a belt up to 4.5 cm wide. You then insert your scabbard into the leather sleeve and use the lacing to tighten it to a perfect fit. This system ensures the frog securely grips scabbards of various sizes. The angled position is designed for right-handers—it's worn on the left hip, allowing for a quick, natural draw with the right hand without the weapon getting in your way while you walk.

A Historically Proven Way to Carry

While in earlier times swords were primarily carried on a shoulder strap (a baldric), frogs worn directly on the belt became popular in the Middle Ages. This method of carrying freed up the shoulders and distributed the weapon's weight more effectively. The angled suspension proved crucial, especially for longer swords, as it allowed them to be drawn from the scabbard in one fluid motion—something that was absolutely essential in combat and for personal defence.

Interesting Fact: Why the Angled Carry?

The reason for carrying a sword at an angle on the hip is purely practical and dictated by human anatomy. If a long sword were to hang vertically, your arm's length would simply not be enough to pull it completely out of the scabbard. The angled position shortens the drawing path, allowing the blade to be fully drawn without needing to awkwardly lean your body or tilt the scabbard with your other hand.

How to Care for Your Leather for a Long Life

Genuine leather is a natural material that requires care. To ensure your sword frog maintains its strength and appearance, we recommend treating it from time to time with a leather care product (such as a conditioner or balm). If it gets dirty, wipe it with a damp cloth only. Should it get wet, let it air dry at room temperature—never place it on a radiator or in direct sunlight, as the leather will harden and crack. With proper care, you can be sure this frog will serve you reliably for many seasons to come.
