How to Choose the Right Size?
This type of belt is traditionally worn so that after fastening it at the waist, the longer end is left to hang freely along the leg, or a knot is tied in it. Measure your waist circumference over the garment (tunic, dress) you will most often wear the belt with, and select the most suitable size from the table based on this measurement.

The Symbolism and History Behind Your Belt
The Belt in the Viking Age
For the Vikings (c. 8th to 11th centuries), the belt was not just a practical accessory but also a status symbol. It kept their tunics and coats in place, allowed for freedom of movement in battle, and, most importantly, served to carry weapons – swords, seaxes, and axes. Richly decorated buckles, often made of bronze, silver, or gold, displayed the wealth and status of their owner. It was not just a piece of leather, but the calling card of every warrior and free man.
A Point of Interest: The Midgard Serpent (Jörmungandr)
The motif on the buckle and chape depicts Jörmungandr, one of the offspring of the god Loki. This sea serpent was so enormous that it encircled the entire world of men (Midgard) and bit its own tail, forming an infinite circle (Ouroboros). He was the arch-enemy of the god Thor, and their final confrontation was destined to occur during Ragnarök, the end of the world. The serpent symbolises power, chaos, but also the cyclical nature of life and fate. By wearing this symbol, you express your strength and connection to the ancient Norse legends.
How to Care for Your Belt to Ensure It Lasts
- Leather: Protect the leather from prolonged exposure to water. If it gets wet, let it air dry at room temperature (never near a heat source!). Occasionally, treat it with a leather care product (wax or oil) to keep it supple and prevent cracking.
- Brass: The brass parts may develop a natural patina over time, which enhances the historical look. If you wish to maintain their shine, you can gently polish them with a cloth using a brass cleaning product.
- Storage: When not wearing the belt, do not fold it at sharp angles. Ideally, hang it up or roll it loosely and store it in a dry place.
