Turned Wooden Bowl – Historical Tableware 18 cm
From Antiquity to the Renaissance
For millennia, wood was the most accessible material for making tableware. While pottery could break and metal was expensive, a wooden bowl was found in every household. This replica is made using a turning technique that was already known in ancient times. This gives the bowl a regular shape and smooth walls. Its wide rim is not just an aesthetic element but serves a practical function – it allows you to hold the bowl firmly, even when it contains hot food, without burning your fingers.
The bowl is supplied in a raw state, i.e., without varnish finish. This gives you the unique opportunity to treat it according to your preference. With time and use, the wood will acquire a beautiful patina, darken, and become a truly personal item with a story. Each piece is an original – the grain and colour shade of the wood vary from piece to piece.
Care for Your New Bowl
To ensure the bowl serves you for many years and does not crack, you must follow a few principles of proper natural wood care:
- First Use: Since the wood is untreated, thoroughly oil the bowl before the first use. Use any food-safe oil (linseed, walnut, olive). The wood will absorb the oil, sealing the pores and becoming more resistant to moisture and food stains.
- Washing: Wood does not belong in the dishwasher! Aggressive chemicals and prolonged soaking would irreversibly destroy and warp the bowl. Rinse it with lukewarm water after eating, perhaps use a little mild detergent, and wipe it dry immediately.
- Temperature: Never put the bowl in the microwave. Extreme temperature fluctuations lead to wood cracking.
