Benefits of the Blackened Finish and Small Diameter
The combination of a 6 mm diameter and black color creates a visually very compact and "dangerous" surface.
- Aesthetics and Stealth: Black armor does not glint as much in the sun, which was appreciated by scouts and night watchmen. In LARP, it is a clear choice for villainous characters.
- Mesh Density: Thanks to the small diameter (6 mm), the resulting mesh is very dense, increasing protection against thrusting weapons and arrows.
- Easier Maintenance: Blackening slightly increases resistance to moisture. The armor does not need to be polished as often as bright steel versions, although an oil film is still a necessity.
Construction and Workmanship
The rings are made of mild steel and pressed into a flat profile. The ends are flattened and stamped with a hole. Connection is made using blackened round rivets (Dome Rivets), which are included in the package. Since the rivets are also black, the overall look of the armor will not be disturbed by shiny connection points.

Important Note on Finish
Keep in mind that blackening is not a permanent paint, but a chemical surface treatment of the metal. In places of intense friction (e.g., under the armpits), it may wear off to silver over time, giving the armor an authentic patina of used equipment. Even blackened armor must be oiled regularly to prevent rust. For riveting, we recommend using pliers with modified jaws to avoid scratching the blackening on the rivet head.
