Leather Kidney Pouch with Brass Fittings, 14th-15th Century, 10" (25.4 cm)
A Historically Accurate Belt Accessory
This pouch is not just beautiful, but also functional. It combines two types of leather: tough, smooth full-grain leather is used for the back panel with the belt loop and the decorated flap, while the pouch itself is made of soft, pliable suede that easily conforms to its contents.
- Authentic Decoration: The flap features two large brass ornaments and is lined with brass rivets.
- Secure Closure: The pouch closes securely with a leather strap and a decorative brass buckle, so you won't lose your valuables even in the heat of battle.
- Easy to Attach: On the back, you'll find a very wide (3-inch) loop that fits comfortably even on broad knightly or military belts.
- Premium Quality: As evidenced by the stamp in one of the photos, this pouch is a high-quality product "Made in Spain".
- Colour Options: Available in elegant Black or rich Brown.
Pockets Full of History
Kidney pouches (also known as "bollock purses") were an incredibly common accessory in the late Middle Ages, particularly in the 14th and 15th centuries. Since medieval clothing lacked pockets, men of all social classes—from peasants and soldiers to wealthy merchants and nobles—carried all their personal necessities in pouches hung from their belts. The name "bollock purse" referred to the characteristic shape of the pouch with its two lobes, which often resembled male genitalia. It was not only a practical item but also a fashion statement that said a lot about its owner.

How to Care for Your Pouch
To ensure this leather pouch lasts you for many years, avoid soaking it completely. Treat the smooth leather parts regularly with a quality leather wax or oil to keep them supple and moisture-resistant. Clean the suede part only when dry, ideally with a special suede brush. The brass fittings may develop a patina over time; if you prefer a shiny look, you can polish them with a brass cleaner.
