Light Brown Gothic Leather Ankle Boots with Two Buckles
Practical Use and Historical Context
These ankle boots, often referred to as poulaines or crakows, represent the typical footwear of the High and Late Gothic periods. The pointed toe was a massive fashion hit at the time and served as an indicator of social status. The longer the toe, the nobler the wearer. This particular model features a toe of moderate length, corresponding to the footwear of common townsfolk, soldiers, and lesser nobility. Therefore, the pointed toe will not restrict your movement while walking or fencing. You can wear these shoes to any historical festival, medieval banquet, or period market.
Material and Construction
The shoes are honestly crafted from high-quality, durable cowhide leather, which will adapt perfectly to the shape of your foot after a short period of wear. The fastening is designed with two leather straps in the ankle and instep area. These are secured with simple metal buckles that reliably hold the shoe on the foot. The construction of the smooth leather sole is designed to withstand the rigours of standard movement on the unpaved surfaces of historical encampments.

Sizes and Custom Tailoring
These historical shoes are standardly available in regular European (EU) sizes. If you choose the custom-made option, the footwear is manufactured precisely according to the measurements you provide. If you wear orthotic insoles, you must physically send these insoles to us before production begins. The shoemaker will fit them exactly into the shoes so that they fit you like a glove and walking in them is as healthy and comfortable as possible.
Leather Footwear Care
From the workshop, the shoes are treated with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax. The balm softens the leather, waterproofs it against moisture, and gives it a characteristic slightly darker shade. To ensure your shoes serve you for a long time, regularly clean them of heavy dirt with a damp cloth, and once dry, apply leather balm, conditioner, or high-quality neatsfoot oil. You can also use standard shoe polish, which is excellent for covering minor scuffs and unifying the colour tone.
Safety and Precautions
Please note that leather footwear with a flat leather sole can be unpleasantly slippery on wet grass, mud, or modern smooth surfaces (tiles, linoleum). Be extremely careful when walking on such terrain to prevent slipping and potential injury. Never dry the shoes in close proximity to an open fire, stoves, or directly on a radiator. The intense heat would dry out the natural leather, causing it to harden and potentially crack irreversibly.
