The Bowie knife is inherently linked to the American pioneer Jim Bowie and his famous Sandbar Fight in 1827. It was there that this type of large knife with a prominent guard and typically clipped point (clip point) earned its deadly reputation. The original purpose of this knife was survival in the harsh wilderness, hunting, and, not least, self-defence. The characteristic groove on the blade (fuller) not only reduces the weapon's weight but also gives it a highly attractive appearance. The knife's blade is crafted from the popular 440 stainless steel, which is characterised by high corrosion resistance and very easy maintenance. The handle is a masterful combination of two contrasting natural materials. In the front part, just behind the elegantly shaped steel guard, genuine horn (deer antler) is used, providing a firm and secure grip even in difficult conditions. The remainder of the handle is composed of dark Pakkawood, a highly durable composite material made of hardwood layers bonded with resilient resin. At the end of the handle is a massive steel pommel equipped with a practical hole for threading a leather wrist lanyard.

Principles of Safe Use and Knife Care

For safety reasons, it must be strongly emphasised that this product has a sharp blade and is by no means intended for contact historical fencing, HEMA training, boffer fighting, or any man-to-man combat. While 440 stainless steel is excellent for normal cutting, strong dynamic impacts against other steel could cause it to chip or break, presenting a risk of serious injury. The knife is designed as a high-quality decoration, an accessory for a historical costume, and a reliable survival knife for light camp chores, such as cutting food or ropes. To ensure the knife serves you long and reliably, we recommend cleaning the blade with a soft cloth after each use. Although it is stainless steel, an occasional wipe with a thin layer of high-quality gun oil will definitely benefit the blade. The wood and horn handle should be protected from extreme dryness and moisture. The supplied sheath is made of genuine cowhide with elegant white stitching and features a snap fastener retaining strap. We advise regularly treating the leather with a beeswax-based balm so it remains supple, water-resistant, and free from cracks.
