Although they look like heavy iron armour at first glance, thanks to the aluminium used, they are incredibly light. You'll appreciate this ultralight quality, especially during extended wear.

The chausses feature a cut that covers the entire leg from thigh to ankle, including the upper part of the instep, just as you can see in the accompanying photograph. At the top, they are fitted with leather loops and buckles, allowing you to easily attach them to a belt or gambeson (belt not included). Additional leather straps are located around the calf and ankle area for a more secure fit, ensuring they sit well and don't hinder movement whilst walking.

These chausses draw inspiration from the historical armour worn by knights and commanders in the 12th and 13th centuries. Their early form appears on the famous Bayeux Tapestry (1066), although they were more of a luxury item at that time. By the turn of the 13th century, however, they had become a standard piece of a medieval knight's equipment, complementing the chainmail hauberk and rendering the warrior almost invulnerable.
