Stainless Steel Training Butterfly Knife with Hammered Finish

History of the Balisong and Its Purpose

The butterfly knife, or balisong, traces its roots to the Philippines, specifically the Batangas province. Originally, it was a practical utility and pocket knife that could be opened in a flash with one hand, thanks to its clever construction featuring two pivoting handles. Over time, opening and closing the knife evolved into a distinct discipline full of complex tricks. Because training with a live blade is highly dangerous, these training variants (trainers) with unsharpened blades were created. They allow for the safe practice of fine motor skills, coordination, and reflexes.

Safe Training and Handling

This model is designed exclusively as a training tool. The blade is completely dull from the factory and lacks a sharp point. This allows you to practice even the most complicated rollovers and aerials without worry. The weapon is also highly suitable for practising knife defence techniques in martial arts, where there is no risk of stabbing or slicing your training partner. The blade, featuring prominent cutouts at the base, visually mimics a real knife while maintaining absolute safety. Please note that the blade cannot be sharpened—the steel profile is structurally unsuitable for taking an edge.

Care for the Mechanism and Maintenance

The weapon is crafted from popular 420 stainless steel, encompassing both the blade and the two handle halves. This material is highly resistant to corrosion, though we still recommend wiping the weapon free of sweat after a practice session. For smooth and quiet flipping, it is absolutely crucial to regularly lubricate the pivots with high-quality oil. Because intense training causes significant vibrations, continuously check the tightness of the screws on the handle. Using a medium-strength thread locker is ideal for securing them permanently.
