Wooden Roman Gladius Sword, Training, 71 cm
Enter the arena, young gladiator! Before you face the roaring crowd, you must master your art. This wooden training gladius is your first and most essential companion. It is crafted from Sagwan wood and boasts a beautiful two-tone finish—the light-coloured "blade" contrasts with the darker guard, hilt, and pommel. The hilt is ergonomically turned, and its "bumpy" (ribbed) surface ensures the sword won't slip from your grasp, even during the most intense drills. It's the ideal tool for practising basic stances, cuts, and parries. It is perfectly suited for Roman re-enactment, LARP, Cosplay, or as a safe prop for theatre or film. Wooden Roman Gladius Sword, Training, 71 cm
Train Like a Roman
This wooden sword faithfully replicates the shape and balance of the classic Roman gladius. It is not just a toy, but a fully-fledged training tool. It consists of several parts:
- Blade: The wide "blade" of light-coloured wood is finished with the typical tapered point, designed for thrusting in antiquity.
- Guard: The flat, semi-circular guard, made of darker wood, protects your hands.
- Hilt: The ergonomically shaped, lathed handle fits perfectly in the palm and provides a secure grip.
- Pommel: A large, spherical pommel at the end of the hilt acts as a counterweight, giving the sword the correct balance.
Thanks to its construction, this sword is ideal for combat practice and light sparring. It allows you to train techniques safely without risking the injuries associated with a steel weapon.
The Rudis: Symbol of Freedom
In ancient Rome, a wooden sword was not just a practice weapon. When a gladiator demonstrated extraordinary courage and skill in the arena, he could be awarded a "Rudis"—a wooden sword identical to the one he trained with. This sword, however, was not meant for further combat. It was the symbol of his freedom, his discharge from the arena, and proof that he had earned the life of a citizen. Our wooden gladius thus carries not only the spirit of training but also the promise of mastery and freedom.
