Loose Riveted Chainmail Rings – Round Wire, Dome Rivets 10 mm (1 kg)
Did your mail aventail tear during the last buhurt, or have you decided on a heroic feat to weave your own hauberk from the very first ring? In either case, this set of loose steel rings with rivets is exactly what you need. This is a classic mesh type combining round wire and round (dome) rivets. This 1 kg pack is the ideal starter kit for smaller projects, repairs, or as a "munition supply" for long winter evenings spent with riveting tongs in hand. Further product information ...

Loose Riveted Chainmail Rings – Round Wire, Dome Rivets 10 mm (1 kg)
Authenticity and DIY in One
Unlike cheap butted rings, which are only suitable for theatre costumes, these rings are designed to be riveted. This means the resulting mail will have genuine strength and historical integrity. This specific type (round wire, round rivet) is versatile and historically plausible for a wide time range, although flat rings with wedge rivets became more common in the late Middle Ages. However, for the Early Middle Ages or less wealthy warriors, this is an excellent choice. The inner diameter of the rings is 10 mm (approx. 3/8 inch), which, combined with a wire thickness of approx. 1.3 mm (16 gauge), means the mail will be relatively light and will "grow" quickly under your hands. It is, therefore, the ideal choice if you want to see results in a reasonable amount of time without struggling with tiny rings.

What is this set good for?
* Armor Repairs: Quickly patching holes in armpits or sleeves of your existing armor with matching ring size. * DIY Projects: Weaving coifs, gauntlets, or attaching aventails to helmets. * Modifications: Extending sleeves or the length of a hauberk.
Maintenance and Crafting
The rings are made of mild steel and are supplied oiled to prevent rusting during storage. * Before Work: I recommend "washing" the rings in a degreaser or wiping them with a cloth so your tongs don't slip. * Rust Prevention: You must keep the finished product oiled (WD40, mineral oil, Ballistol). If the armor gets wet, dry it immediately and re-oil. * Tools: You will need special riveting tongs (not included) that have a cutout in the jaws to accommodate the dome head of the rivet. You cannot close the rivet correctly with ordinary pliers.
Warning
Chainmail making is addictive but also demanding on your hands. Take breaks to prevent tendonitis. Due to the relatively large diameter of the rings in relation to the wire thickness, this mesh is not suitable against strong thrusts with thin weapons (rapiers, awls) – historically, denser mesh (smaller rings) was used for such purposes.
