These tall boots closely reflect European footwear fashion from the late 15th to the late 16th century, appearing most frequently in the Holy Roman Empire at that time. The wide toe shape, often also called a bearpaw, was a direct reaction to the preceding Gothic fashion of extremely elongated and narrow pointed toes. The feared Landsknechts, elite Germanic mercenaries and Doppelsöldner wielding massive two-handed swords, popularised this extravagant and majestic footwear across Europe. The striking folded cuff at the top gives the boots a suitably confident appearance, essential for any Renaissance warrior.

Craftsmanship And Technical Parameters

The upper of the boot is made from high-quality, smooth cowhide leather. The boots are carefully machine-sewn and shaped on a traditional wooden shoemaker's last, ensuring they hold their shape and provide good support for the foot. The practical lacing on the outer side of the calf is historically accurate, using leather laces threaded through sturdy leather loops. The sole consists of two thick layers of shoemaker's leather.

If the custom-made to measure option is selected, the footwear is manufactured exactly according to the measurement chart, which please fill out carefully after completing your order. Leather Care And Safety Guidelines

The boots are pre-treated with a beeswax leather balsam straight from the workshop. We strongly recommend regularly rubbing a high-quality leather balsam or oil into the leather to prolong its lifespan. The balsam softens the leather, impregnates it against moisture, and prevents cracking. Please remember that the leather will always darken slightly after applying grease. Minor scuffs on the toes from the heat of battle can easily be hidden with a brown tinted shoe polish.

Never dry your boots in the immediate vicinity of an open campfire or on a hot radiator! Extreme heat will irreversibly dry out the leather, causing it to harden and crack. Dry them slowly at room temperature, ideally stuffed with crumpled newspaper to absorb internal moisture. Although the boot features a modern rubber sole, always exercise caution when walking on wet grass, in mud, or on damp historical cobblestones.
