Medieval Brass Belt Mount – Bar with Eyelet, Set of 5
Detailed Description and Usage
These fittings are designed from PURE SOLID BRASS. Each piece is shaped like a horizontal bar with ball terminals and a central eyelet (hole). In historical context, such fittings were not merely decorative; they served as stiffeners to prevent heavy belts from rolling or twisting under the weight of a sword or dagger. The central eyelet can also be used as a suspension point for light accessories like keys.
Installation: Each mount features two integral pins on the back. To attach them, punch corresponding holes in your leather strap, insert the mount, and then peen (rivet) the pins over a washer (washer not included) or carefully bend them flat on the reverse side. This traditional method ensures a secure and permanent bond.

Historical Context
During the High and Late Middle Ages (approx. 13th–15th centuries), a plain leather belt was a rarity among those who could afford better. Belts were heavily adorned with metal mounts, bars, and stiffeners. These specific "bar mounts" were popular across Europe and were often used to break up the visual length of a belt or to reinforce specific sections. They are an essential detail for portraying a person of status or a man-at-arms.
Care Instructions
As these items are made of solid brass, they may tarnish over time due to exposure to air and humidity. This natural patina is often desired for an authentic "aged" look. However, if you prefer a high-polish finish, simply wipe them down with a jewellery cloth or a brass polishing compound. Be careful to protect the leather from polishing agents.
Important Notes
- Crafting: When riveting the pins, avoid excessive force. Brass can become brittle if worked too aggressively while cold. Gentle tapping is better than one heavy blow.
- Maintenance: Do not machine wash items with these metal fittings attached. Hand clean only.
