Product Care

The lock is made from structural steel (mild steel) with a blackened finish. This finish provides basic protection against corrosion, but it is not completely rust-proof. If you use the lock outdoors, we recommend wiping it regularly with a cloth and treating it with oil (e.g., WD-40 or a conservation oil) to prevent rust. This also applies to the internal mechanism. Please bear in mind that this is a historical replica – it does not provide the same level of security as a modern lock and should not be used to protect valuables in a vulnerable environment.
