Hand-Carved Pocket Smoking Pipe, Acacia Wood
The Traveller's Companion
Short, so-called "pocket pipes," gained popularity especially in the 18th and 19th centuries for their undeniable practicality. Unlike long and fragile "churchwarden" pipes, these could easily fit into a coat pocket or a pouch. They were therefore favoured by soldiers, sailors, merchants, and anyone who spent a lot of time on the road. Their sturdy construction ensured they could withstand rougher handling and were always on hand for a short rest.
Craftsmanship and Clever Details
This pipe is not only beautiful but also cleverly designed for the best possible functionality and longevity.
- Clay Liner: Inside the wooden bowl is a liner made of fired clay. This protects the wood from direct heat, prevents burnout, and significantly extends the life of the entire pipe.
- Detachable Bowl: Just like our longer models, the bowl can be easily unscrewed from the rest of the pipe. This allows for exceptionally convenient and thorough cleaning of the smoke channel.
- Hand-Carved: Each piece is an original with unique details that are the result of a craftsman's skill.

How to Care for Your Pipe
Proper maintenance is the key to a long life and a good taste.
- Cleaning: After each smoke, allow the pipe to cool completely. Then, unscrew the bowl and run a pipe cleaner through the smoke channel. The bowl with its clay liner can be easily wiped out.
- Wood Maintenance: From time to time, you can polish the surface of the pipe with beeswax to maintain the wood's lustre and resilience.
- What to Avoid: Never disassemble the pipe while it is hot. Do not tap out the ash against hard objects, as this could damage the clay liner.
